About Tutors at Portland Tutoring Collective

Meet Annie Corbett

Annie has coached students to perfect 800s in all three sections of the SAT (math, reading, and writing). She has tutored over 100 middle, high school, and college students in SAT/ACT/GRE test prep, pre-algebra, algebra I/2 and algebra 3/4, geometry, pre-calculus, essay writing, and biology. She has worked with students from elementary to college level who are attending public, private, charter, and home schools. She has also worked with students with various learning differences, including students with ADHD and those on the autism spectrum.

While receiving her bachelor’s of science in molecular biology from the University of California, Davis, Annie tutored fellow undergraduates in biology, biochemistry, and genetics. After her studies, she traveled to Central America and volunteered at a group home for homeless teens in Nicaragua.

Annie also completed two years of graduate studies in environmental microbiology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After leaving graduate school for medical reasons, she discovered private tutoring was a great match for her skills, expertise, and passions.

Annie has tutored and taught full-time since moving to Portland in 2008. She worked for the SUN program in Portland tutoring in their after-school program. She developed and taught the Magnificent Microbes and Introduction to Biotechnology class for Saturday Academy in 2009. She also teaches supplementary science classes for Saturday Academy and local elementary schools.

She founded the Portland Tutoring Collective several years ago with a fellow SUN program tutor, and has enjoyed helping students improve their academic skills, test scores, and self-confidence.
